The Lighter Inn occupies a prominent position on Topsham Quay overlooking the Exe estuary. Indeed it recalls Topsham’s maritime history and takes its name from the lighter, a flat bottomed boat used at Topsham to unload larger ships that had to anchor in the middle of the channel. Until 1958, the quay by the Lighter Inn was still served by a railway siding.

Today The Lighter, with its numerous outdoor tables with umbrellas and heaters, is popular all year round. Beers and drinks are from the Hall & Woodhouse family brewery and food is served from 12 – 9pm daily. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar and outdoor areas. Wi-Fi access is free to all customers and guests (subject to availability).  There is parking on Topsham Quay.
